This verse depicts a sad picture. Any one who experiences this situation is most pitiful. It is the very hope of travelers to be able to go home and rest after the last destination. If one is almost home but discovers it is too late since the city gate is already closed, he will then have to spend the night outside the city. There is no protection, no one who cares; only the sounds of howling wolves and roaring tigers surround him. His long night will have to be spent amid fear and dread. Perhaps he himself will even become food for the hungry animals!

Every person living on earth is like a traveler who needs a safe place to rest. What is your place of rest, the destination of your life-long journey?

Thanks be to our Heavenly Father, the Creator of the universe! Because of His great love for us, through the death and resurrection of His only Son Jesus Christ, He has prepared for us a home in heaven.
