A Strange sickness

¡yBut he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.¡z

Isaiah53:5

Every night before I go to bed. I do something which you probably also do. I lock the doors. When I ride my motorbike downtown I am very careful again to lock it up. I have travelled in many countries of the world but, strangely, I have never found a country where locks of some sort are not used. Now why is this? Why do you you¡¦re your house, bicycle, your money?

The answer is simple. Man is not to be trusted. Men will break into your homes¡F they will steal your money; they will run away with your bicycle. And many more who would like to do these things do not do them only because they are afraid they will be caught and punished.

We spend billions of dollars each year on things that would not be necessary if man could be trusted. Think of it. We must have tickets and ticket collectors. Why? Because man is dishonest.

Were it not for tickets he would try to ride the trains without paying. Because man is not to be trusted we must have policemen at the street corners, guards in the banks; we must have thousands of laws, lawyers and judges. We must maintain courts, and more than that, we must maintain armies for nations cannot trust one another.

All of these facts which we have so long accepted, tell us a startling truth about human nature. Man is infected with an evil nature. Wherever you find man you find evil to some degree. If you look within your own heart you will find the evidence of this disease, even within you. Does it express itself in anger, jealousy, pride, wrong ambition, lust? If you are honest you will admit, ¡§Yes, these things are present-even in my heart.¡¨

What does ail this mean? God¡¦s Word tells us very clearly. It says, ¡§All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.¡¨ (Rom. 3:23) ¡§They are all gone aside and they are all together become filthy, there is none that doeth good, no not one.¡¨ (Ps.14: 3)

It was as a sacrifice for man¡¦s sin that Jesus Christ died on the cross. Would you like more information on how to become a Christian?
